How to Evaluate your Career

Have you been working for years and still stuck in one position without promotion? Are you currently working and wondering if you are satisfied with the job role or not? Or are you satisfied with what you do currently?

Well, if you find yourself in this situation then it is time to evaluate your career. In this article, I shall discuss how you can evaluate your career to know if you have taken the right career direction or if it is time for a change.

Are you fulfilled with what you do?

We all know that everyone has days when he/she is reluctant to go to work due to stress or tiredness but the situation is different when you wake up in the morning and you feel reluctant to go to work because you are currently dissatisfied with what you do or you no longer appreciate what your job role and function, then it is time to evaluate your career in the company as it is obvious that your desires are no longer in tune with the job role given to you.

Promotion and career growth

Have you been static and fixed to a particular job role for years without promotion, increase in benefits, career advancement and progress despite your effort? Do you feel used, abandoned and neglected over the years without improvement in your career? If the answer is yes, then it is time to dust that CV and start applying for other vacancies that will give allow you grow and develop your career.

I have seen instances were people who have worked in a particular job role for about 6-10 years without a single promotion despite their commitment, increase in educational qualification and experience in the job role. Most times they are promised that things will get better one day meanwhile, their peers in other organizations have been promoted to the point of some ending up as managers and top executives of their companies.

If you are find yourself in this situation, please look for other opportunities that will allow for growth.

Have you attained your career objectives and goals?

A lot of people are satisfied with just coming to work, do their duty, close from the office and going home every day. There is nothing wrong with this attitude especially when are satisfied with it.

However, if you are dis-satisfied with what you are doing or you feel that you are not given the opportunity to achieve your career goals and objective, then maybe it is time to move forward and search for a job role that will give you that career goals you want to achieve.

Have a career mentor

If you have people who are career mentors that you look up to, then it is appropriate you discuss with them about your current plight as they have experienced what you are currently going through and they can give you the necessary advice needed to guide you effectively.

In conclusion, make out time to evaluate your job and career prospects before concluding if a change is needed or if the job is right for you.
