Have you ever received a job invitation either via sms or
mail and wondered if it was real or fake? Do you find it difficult to
differentiate between a real job offer and a scam job especially when you
receive invitations for job positions you never applied for? Well, in this
article, we shall give you 5 ways to detect a job scam and how you can avoid
them.
They request for cash
payment before you get the job:
A lot of people have fallen for this particular scam
especially as there are so many unemployed youths in the society. Some fake recruiting
agencies use this tactics and will ask you to fill a form or invite you for a
very short test, after the test, they immediately to send you a text message or
mail that you were successful even when you didn’t perform well on the test. You
will be prompted to come to their office for interview where you will be requested
to make cash payment for almost any job. Once you make payment, you will be directed
to a company that is non-existent or a company where the MD/ HR personnel is
never around. Once you notice this, please back out and avoid making any
payment for a job offer.
They never specify
the Job role in the content of their sms or mail:
If you often receive a lot of job scam offers you will
notice that they do not include the job position you are told to attend the
interview. So ask yourself, how can you prepare for an interview you don’t even
know the Job post being offered? So whenever you receive such sms or email, it
is advisable you ignore.
They send you a job
invite using a non-official email address:
This case is very common especially when you see a job
invite mail claiming to be from a multinational company. Please note that the
HR recruiters of such multinational companies will never send a job invite using a non-official
email address like for example mtn@yahoo.com
or chevron@hotmail.com which are fake email addresses.
They are very clumsy
with their job advert:
Most cases when you receive a scam job invite, you will
notice a lot of typo, spelling errors and inconsistencies. Once you go through this
advert or offer, you will realize that the write up barely makes any sense.
They request for your
bank details:
This is another trick some scammers use in to swindle
unsuspecting job applicants of their cash. After informing you that you have
successfully passed the test, they go ahead and request you fill some personal
details including your BVN, bank pin or bank account number. Please report such
scam as no employer will request for your banking details or pin.
Overall, in other to avoid being a victim of Job scam, it is
advisable you carry out your due diligence by researching the job invite or
offer, most preferably via the web about the company name, phone number you
received the sms from, email address or the office address to get more details and
stay one step ahead of any job scam.
